How to Create a Custom Banner:It's easy to make a banner with Microsoft's Paint program or another program that may have come with your computer at no cost. The one's above were all made by following these steps: - Step One: Get a picture to use for a background.
- You can also just use a color block you make using the program. You can use a picture of your own, or get a royalty-free one off the internet. A good site for gorgeous free pictures that are not restricted for usage is at Stock.XCHNG. They have literally thousands, but here are some samples:

- Step Two: Begin designing.
- Open your Paint program, and then use "File", then "Open" to open the picture file you saved. Don't be alarmed - the picture will likely look HUGE in your Paint program.
- Step Three: Reduce the size of your picture if needed.
- To do this in the Paint toolbar, click on "Image" and then on "Stretch/Skew". Reduce it horizontally and vertically by the same ratio (ie: 50% and 50%), until it gets to be a managable size.
- Step Four: Portion the picture into standard banner size (480 pixels by 60 pixels).
- You will need to do this using both "Stretch/Skew" and "Attributes". Be sure you are using pixels, and not centimeters! To check your size, just keep checking "Attributes" until you get it sized correctly. To remove sections of your picture from the top or left, just flip your picture around using "Flip/Rotate", and then back again.
This: to This: - Step Five: Add Text.
- Save your banner in a separate file in case you want to put different texts on it later. To add text to your new banner, click the T (text) button, and then create a text box on your banner. Click the HELP button of your program if you are unfamiliar with adding text. Microsoft's Paint also allows you to choose a solid or clear backgroud for your text box. If you make a mistake, just click "Edit" and then "Undo" in the toolbox.
Congrats! You have made your own custom banner! Host it at your URL, or at a free image hosting site like Photobucket.
