Read About Jim Elliot: No Fool  "January 2, 1956, was the day that 29-year-old Jim Elliot had waited for most of his life. He jumped out of bed, dressed as quickly as he could, and got ready for the short flight over the thick Ecuador (Eck-wah-door) jungle. Almost three years of jungle ministry and many hours of planning and praying had led Jim to this day..."

Read About William Tyndale, God's Outlaw "It is hard for us today to imagine not having a Bible in our own language, but it hasn't always been that way. When William Tyndale was a little boy growing up in England in the 1500s, ordinary people did not own Bibles. They had to go to church to hear what the Bible had to say. But there was one problem--the priest read the Bible in Latin, a language only the most educated people could understand..."

Read About George Mueller, Orphanages Built by Prayer "'The children are dressed and ready for school. But there is no food for them to eat,' the housemother of the orphanage informed George Mueller. George asked her to take the 300 children into the dining room and have them sit at the tables. He thanked God for the food and waited. George knew God would provide food for the children as he always did. Within minutes, a baker knocked on the door. 'Mr. Mueller,' he said, 'last night I could not sleep. Somehow I knew that you would need bread this morning. I got up and baked three batches for you. I will bring it in.'  Soon, there was another knock at the door..."

Read About John Bunyan: The Jailor's Story "I watched for trouble as John Bunyan preached to a crowd in the town square. The foolish man had been warned he'd be arrested for preaching outside the church. At this rate, he'd end up in my jail before long. 'I must preach,' I once heard him tell an officer. 'When God lays that on a man's heart, it is terrible to disobey, more terrible than your jails.'  'Humph,' I thought. 'Does he really know what jail is like?' Did he understand how dark they were, how only the faintest light penetrates the damp stone walls? Did he realize that he'd get just a quarter loaf of bread a day and that no one in the crowded cells got to bathe?..."

Read About William Carey, the Father of Modern Missions  "'Father, wait up!' called eight-year-old Felix Carey as he ran along the upper deck of the ship. 'Mother won't do it. After all she's gone through on this journey, she says that climbing overboard and getting into that little fishing boat is just the last straw!'  William Carey turned and laid a hand on his son's shoulder. 'Don't worry, Felix. I know Mother is scared, but I'll help her.'  Felix gazed down at the fishing boat bobbing in the waves. He knew missionaries could not officially enter India and were not welcome here..."

Read About Hudson Taylor: Fit to Serve  "Bump! Bump! Thump! Fourteen-year old Amelia Taylor ran to the stairs to see what was causing all the commotion. 'Hudson! What in the world are you doing with your feather bed?'  Amelia's seventeen-year-old brother looked down the stairs with a smile. 'I'm getting rid of it--they don't have comfortable mattresses in China, you know!'  'Getting rid of it? Mother is not going to like this!'  'Oh, she'll come 'round. Remember, China was Mother and Father's idea in the first place! People there don't have it as good as we do--sleeping on hard boards ought to toughen me up'..."
